In August 2024, online users searched Google for the phrase Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 reviews, all about a scam that was in no way legit. Basically, scammers advertised videos on Facebook and Instagram misleadingly showing a very expensive drone. However, according to my research, the product that scam victims ultimately received in the mail was nothing more than a completely different and extremely low-quality drone.

In this story, I’ll reveal the deception behind the Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 reviews scam. I’ll also provide some of my research regarding the people behind the scam.

Instagram Stories Ad for Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 Reviews Scam

The Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 reviews scam began on Meta in Facebook and Instagram ads. Scammers also possibly advertised their videos on YouTube, Rumble and other platforms.

The Instagram Stories video ad I viewed on Aug. 11, 2024, claimed, “This is the drone for you. It has many technologies to support beginners.”

The ad also featured a text caption reading, “Whether you are a notice or a pro, this high-performance drone can meet all of your needs! Our goal is to create an affordable drone because we think everyone should have access to this fantastic technology. Warranty 5 years! If there is any quality problem, no need to repair, just replace the new machine! 8K triple camera with capture every moment of your life. Excellent battery life. 60 minutes per battery. This ad appearing in my Instagram Stories promoted a scam.

The text of the ad mentioned fly-cam.lanusa.us but the clickable link directed users to https://fly-cam.aquatus.store. Both websites listed the product, “Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 – Suitable for beginners – SALE OFF 55%.” The price on both websites displayed as $179.99 with a slash through it. The purported sale price showed as $69.99.

According to the scam websites, “Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone features next-level imaging performance. Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone triple-camera system ushers in a new era of camera drones by housing three sensors and lenses with different focal lengths. The Lanus Fly app provides detailed instructions and online support, helping you answer all your questions when using the drone.”

Here’s How the Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 Reviews Scam Works

Scammers marketed what they referenced as the Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 in Facebook and Instagram ads. However, here’s the truth: Those video ads and also the fly-cam.lanusa.us and fly-cam.aquatus.store websites all misleadingly showed images of a pricey DJI Mavic Pro 3. According to The Verge, that drone costs thousands of dollars.

Online users searched for the truth about the Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 reviews scam, a fraudulent scheme involving several misleading sales tactics.
The red circle shows the DJI logo on the product in the Instagram scam ad.

During my research, I discovered an Amazon.com listing appearing to reveal the product that scam victims might receive upon ordering. A page on Amazon.com listed a product named, “Lanus Triple Camera 8k Drone 2024.” The brand name displayed as “UIWLLOUC.” The “sold by” name showed as “ailisidun.” The price was $48.88.

This Amazon.com listing displayed a very cheap knockoff drone nowhere near the quality of a DJI product.

The Amazon.com listing displayed several images and a video. The video promoted something named “H12 Camera Obstacle Avoidance.”

A simple Google search for a drone named “H12” found results for a product named “H12 Mini Drone 8K Professional Three Camera Wide Angle Optical Flow Localization Four-way Obstacle Avoidance RC UAV Quadcopter.” This same drone costs anywhere from $2.33 to $15.72 on AliExpress.com, $13.13 on Alibaba.com and $32.98 on Temu.

In other words, the scam promised a DJI Mavic Pro 3 but ultimately provided customers with a different, cheap and low-quality drone.

Who’s Behind the Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 Scam?

I wasn’t able to find many details about the scammers who promoted the Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 reviews scam. However, I did find one very helpful trail of breadcrumbs.

According to Namecheap.com, a WHOIS lookup of lanusa.us — one of the two websites promoting the scam â€” displayed information indicating the person who registered the website listed their location as Hanoi, Vietnam. All other details showed as, “Redacted for Privacy Purposes.”

However, a check of the same domain name on whois.us displayed more details not redacted. The website listed the registrant name Thu Phuong Nguyen. It also showed a registrant address, phone number and the email address admin at infipay.us. Further, a WHOIS search for infipay.us displayed a Gmail address, which appeared to contain a Vietnamese name.

It’s unclear if any of these contact details were authentic. I say that because the “About Us” page on lanusa.us mentioned China. Specifically, the page read, “Welcome to our website that is operated under Longyan Liangye Mingfeng Trading Co., Ltd. â€” a company incorporated under China law located at: Suo Jian Sheng Longyan Shi Wuping Ju Pingchuan Jiedao Shuang Lu 10-5.” The page also displayed a person named Pham Thi Phuong Anh as the “managing director.”

Conclusion

The Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 reviews scam followed a common fraud tactic seen in other online scams.

For example, in previous years, scammers wrongly advertised videos showing expensive drones eventually leading to purchases of different, low-quality drones. Scammers marketed those products with false claims that the U.S. military created the drones. Those product names included Stealth Bird 4K Drone, Black Falcon Pro 4K Drone, QuadAir Drone, Blackbird 4K Drone and likely others.

Scammers also advertised with false military endorsement claims so-called Tactical StealthOp Military Backpacks and VitalTac Military Tactical Flashlights.

As for the Lanus Triple Camera 8K Drone 2024 reviews scam, my best advice recalls an old and wise phrase: “If an online offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.”
