In early November 2024, I noticed that Google users searched for information about an Ataceous reviews scam concerning discounts for a “factory direct” or “clearance” sale on Duluth Trading Company clothing items. A Facebook advertisement said those items included a “rugged outdoor gear lightweight clothing and more,” all via the shopping website ataceous.com. Some users looked for help after first seeing advertisements on Facebook and Instagram that offered purported deals on Duluth Trading clothing items on a Facebook page named, “Duluth Trading Dubuque plant.” As of this writing, the Ataceous reviews scam website’s homepage promoted 35 percent off of various clothing items. (I referred to the scam as the “Ataceous reviews scam” for keyword purposes.)

In my research, I looked into the Ataceous reviews scam website and its promises of Duluth Trading products at deep discounts. I advise consumers to not order anything from ataceous.com. The owners of ataceous.com misrepresent their website and are not forthcoming about the Duluth Trading scam to anyone simply visiting the homepage.

Duluth Trading Scam Facebook Advertisement

One example of a Facebook advertisement displayed by the “Duluth Trading Dubuque plant” page advertised a video that claimed Duluth Trading promoted a clearance sale of products costing between $3 and $15. The text caption read, “Sorry, Sorry, Sorry! We just had to say it — these deals are too good to keep quiet about! For a limited time, you can now get multiple items for the price of just one! Stock up on your favorite rugged outdoor gear, lightweight clothing, and more — all with discounts starting at 60-70%! Don’t wait! These offers won’t last long, and once they’re gone, they’re gone for good!”

This advertisement was promoted by a scammer pretending to be a representative of Duluth Trading Company.

The post also displayed the words, “Factory direct sale! Unbeatable prices.”

Ataceous Poses as Duluth Trading Company’s Website

The main reason why I believe consumers should not purchase items on the Ataceous reviews scam website was that someone associated with ataceous.com pretended to be associated with the Duluth Trading Company brand. Also, the website looked just like other scam shopping websites I reviewed in the past, in particular around the holiday shopping season.

Mainly, as a GoDaddy.com search confirmed, the owner or owners of the Ataceous reviews scam website — pretending to be Duluth Trading — registered the domain name ataceous.com with a registrar located in China. That registrar’s name displayed as “Chengdu West Dimension Digital Technology Co., Ltd.” The ataceous.com website itself does not mention China, showing that the owner or owners probably don’t want potential customers to know about its registrar location. The Ataceous reviews scam website listed no other identifying data, including no mailing addresses or phone numbers.

The Ataceous reviews scam website featured an “About Us” page — possibly translated from Chinese or obtained from a generic template — that displayed an odd description that did not offer much in the way of reassurances of the website’s legitimacy. It began, “Welcome to ataceous, your go-to destination for stylish and affordable clothing, no matter where you are in the world. We’re not just an online store; we’re a global community of fashion enthusiasts who believe that everyone should have access to the latest trends, regardless of borders.”

One of the more concerning characteristics of the Ataceous reviews scam about Duluth Trading clothing was that the website hosted product photos obtained from other and perhaps more credible websites. In other words, there would be no guarantee of shoppers receiving the same quality item they might expect from a well-known brand — like the genuine Duluth Trading Company — if they ordered an item from ataceous.com. Customers would possibly receive cheaply-made knockoff items or something completely different from the product they ordered.

Need Help After Buying Something from Ataceous.com?

If any consumers who purchased products from the Ataceous reviews scam website about Duluth Trading Company need assistance and cannot reach the owner or owners residing in China or elsewhere, I recommend calling your credit card company. Credit card companies often share solid advice about how to handle situations involving potential scams. Request a refund from your credit card company and mention your years of loyalty and on-time payments. Further, ask if it’s possible to block future charges from the same seller.
